GAP.12: Logistics

Kindly be advised that this information will also be accessible on the official GAP.12 App, which will be released for iOS and Android within one to two weeks prior to the conference.

In the run-up to academic conferences, there is an increase in internet scams suggesting that a commissioned travel agency is organising hotel accommodations etc. for participants. The GAP has not issued any such commission; if you receive such online offers via email, please be cautious.

Venue

The conference will take place on the campus of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU), located at Universitätsstraße 1, 40225 Düsseldorf. Registration will be held in Building 23.01. You can find a campus map here and our recommended interactive map here.

Please note that there are no printing or copying facilities available on campus. We recommend preparing any necessary documents in advance and bringing printed copies with you if needed.

About Düsseldorf

Planning to explore Düsseldorf during your stay? As the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city offers an interesting mix of culture, nature, and riverside charm.

Wander through the “Art Axis”, home to renowned museums and galleries; stroll along the “Green Axis”, which features beautiful parks and gardens; or enjoy the scenic views of the “Rhine Axis”, as the mighty Rhine River flows through the city for over 42 kilometers.

For more ideas, recommended sights, and day trips, visit the official Düsseldorf Tourist Information site.

Getting here

Public transport within Düsseldorf

The campus is well-connected to public transportation. The closest tram and bus stops are “Uni Ost/Botanischer Garten”, “Uni Mitte”, and “Uni Mensa”.

If you arrive from Düsseldorf Central Station (Hauptbahnhof), the most convenient route is to take tram U79 towards “Uni Ost/Botanischer Garten.” This line runs approximately every 10–15 minutes.

To plan your journey, please consult the Rheinbahn journey planner or the Rheinbahn app. Single tickets (approximately €3.60 for Zone A) can be purchased from ticket machines located on board the trams or at most stations. Discounted multi-journey tickets and day passes are also available.

By Train to Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is well-connected to both national and international rail networks. For train schedules and booking information, please visit the official website of Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s national railway company.

By Plane to Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is also easily accessible by air. The city’s main airport, Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS), is Germany’s third-largest and offers direct connections to numerous destinations across Europe and beyond. The city center can be reached in approximately 10 minutes by train. The airport train station is conveniently located on the lowest level of the terminal building.

Another convenient option is Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN), which can be reached in approximately 50 minutes by train.

While Weeze Airport (NRN) is sometimes marketed as “Düsseldorf Weeze,” it is located more than 90 km from the city and lacks direct public transport connections. Unless absolutely necessary, we recommend flying into Düsseldorf (DUS) or Cologne Bonn (CGN) for easier access.

Accommodation

All participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. To assist with this, we have secured special room contingents at fixed rates with several nearby hotels.

To book a room under these conditions, please follow the instructions provided below for each hotel. Please note that these rooms are guaranteed until mid July/August and availability is limited, so we recommend booking early.

Special Needs

If you have any special needs or accessibility requirements, feel free to reach out to us confidentially at info@gap12.de. All lecture halls are wheelchair-accessible. See here for a detailed description of the accessibility features of the rooms in which the conference is going to take place.
